Dear Local 601 Brothers & Sisters,

My name is Dave Schury and I am a thirty five year member of the IBEW Local 15. Eleven years ago, I suffered a serious burn injury on the job but have since made a full recovery. Since then, I have become very active in the burn community to help others who have suffered serious burn injuries. Last April, the IBEW did a story about me, and as a result, I was contacted by three members of the IBEW for support in their recovery from burn injuries. Sadly, I know there are and will continue to be many more out there that need support.

Last year, I started the Tragedy to Triumph Foundation. Our initial effort consisted of providing collegiate scholarships to young burn survivors but we have since expanded to provide support to electrical workers, including my brothers in of the IBEW Local 15, that have suffered burn injuries. The IBEW Local 15 has been outstanding supporting what we do. They have included a link to the foundations' web site for IBEW brothers who have been burned or suffered electrical contact to reference in seeking support. In the interest of reaching out to as many IBEW workers in need of support, please also consider providing a link to our site for your Local IBEW members to reference: the website url is www.ftttf.org

On June 25th, 2011 we are holding a golf outing fundraiser at Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont Each hole will be available for sponsorship by local companies and organizations while the foundation will welcome anyone who would like to attend the event and enjoy the day with us. The proceeds from the event, in addition to donations the foundation is always accepting, will be used to send burned electrical workers to the World Burn Congress in September of 2011, where they can receive support from experts in the field and meet other burn survivors like them. Any donation or participation in the fundraiser that you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
